The American Fire Service has been a proud tradition for over 350 years. The Cheltenham Hook & Ladder Company has been serving as part of that proud tradition since 1896. Our service has continued thanks to many dedicated volunteers.

Unfortunately our number of volunteers is declining. Can you help?

We are looking for individuals willing to volunteer time to help out those in need of emergency service. Didn't everyone dream of being a firefighter as a child? Why not give it a try?

Our firehouse is located at 413 Ryers Avenue in Cheltenham Village. We have four pieces of apparatus that provide fire protection and rescue services to the eastern end of Cheltenham Township. We handle approximately 150 emergency calls per year.

As a volunteer of our department, you will receive a full entrance physical free of charge. You will be covered by Workers Compensation insurance and will receive free a free life insurance policy. The company will cover all expenses related to training and provide all necessary protective equipment. Along with these benefits, you have the camaraderie and friendships that are built amongst firefighters.

As an active member we ask that you make at least 25% of the emergency calls and at least 25% of weekly drills. Weekly drills are held on Thursday or Friday nights (Thursday over summer months, Fridays over Fall / Spring.) There are also daytime drills scheduled monthly for those unable to attend evening drills.
