1.  How many fire calls do you respond to each year?

We respond to an average of 200 calls per year. This is a significant increase from the 90 calls average, which we responded to about 10 years ago.

2.  Do you get paid for being a firefighter?

Nope! Our members are 100% volunteer. Our members are a mix of people who have other full time jobs, or are students in schools. Our members could be professional teachers, plumbers, business professionals, electricians, EMTS, Paramedics, Firefighters, Truck Drivers, Metal Workers, Insurance Specialists. Beside from their full time jobs, or schooling, they also have the required training to respond to calls and help you!

3.  Will the fire company come get my cat out of a tree?

Nope! Although a funny stereotype we don't come get them out. If they got in the tree they will get out. Now let us tell you, the cops do love their coffee and donuts!

4.  Will the fire company pump my basement when it floods?

Unfortunately we do not. When one basement is flooded, chances are there are many people going through the same thing, and there is simply not enough time to do it. Besides we don't carry a pump like that on our trucks anyway!

5.  I just became an EMT, can I run ambulance calls with the CFC?

We do not have an ambulance for you to run calls on, therefore we would not be a good fit for you! CFC is looking for people who are looking into being, or are, firefighters. Being cross trained as an EMS providers is great and will come in handy, but to join you must be looking to participate in fire related activities.

If interested in volunteering with an EMS agency, Check out Cheltenham EMS, and get involved!

6.  I have a hydrant near my house, should I shovel around it when it snows?

Yes! By shoveling out the fire hydrant closest to your house, you are saving us valuable time of in the event of an emergency. It only takes a few minutes, and your neighbors and even you will reap the benefits in the event of an emergency.
